Manitoba OldTyme and Bluegrass Society (MOBS)
The Manitoba OldTyme and Bluegrass Society was incorporated as a non-profit organization on Feb. 14, 1991. Its purpose is the preservation and promotion of old-time and bluegrass music, fostering the use of acoustic, stringed instruments primarily. Open jams are organized quarterly, and campouts are arranged in the spring and/or fall. General meetings of the membership are held on the first Sunday of March (AGM), June, September and December. MOBS is geographically inclusive – most members live in Manitoba, but folks as far afield as Ontario, West Virginia, North Dakota, Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan and British Columbia have been members over the years.
MOBS sends out a monthly newsletter entitled the Dill Pickle Rag featuring stories about local events, bands, personalities and general bluegrass news. Local bands in which at least one person is a MOBS member are eligible to have their band information listed in the ‘Talent Listing’ section some of these include: Agassiz Railroad, CSI, Hearts on Fire, and Southern Flavour.
Membership fees for the Manitoba OldeTyme and Bluegrass Society are a very reasonable $20 per year or 5 years for $80. If you are in our locality and would like to be informed and perhaps participate in our events, or are interested in what we are doing in Manitoba, we would be happy to have you as a member.
