Picture supplied by Shannon Campbell of Campbell’s Corner PRESIDENT‘S MESSAGE Hello Bluegrass compatriots, Welcome to the 2011 Festivals Issue of our BMACC publication. This is likely the last issue you will receive, before we go on to be- come a national bluegrass organization. Yes, the papers are filed, and we will soon be the Bluegrass Music Association of Cana- da, dropping Central from our name. BMACC members in good standing, need not do a thing; nothing is changing except our name. If you are not currently a member of this ever growing blue- grass movement, don‘t wait any longer. BMAC will continue to be bluegrass central for fans, bands, clubs and promoters! If you are organizing a bluegrass event, concert, or festival, be sure to go to our website and submit the particulars for FREE!!! Your listing will be seen by a ready-made bluegrass target audience… another reason why BMACC (or BMAC)…is bluegrass central. This grassroots organization is comprised entirely of a volunteer board, and we are always looking for folks, like you, to lend a hand. This can be as simple as sitting at one of our tables at a festival for an hour or two. Hey, if your going to be there anyway, we‘d be much obliged. Congratulations to Arla (Blakeny), the winner of our free ticket give- away. We are pleased to reward our members, with benefits that far exceed the cost of membership. Looks like we have a fabulous year of festivals coming-up, and a great many step dance & fiddle competitions, along with numerous country music events that have reconnected with their bluegrass roots. (Heck, country was bluegrass music, prior to the ‗60s.) Okay, time to confess my sins…when I goof, I can only admit it, and pray for forgiveness. In my farewell to the Northern Sons in the last issue, I inadvertently wrote the name of their mandolin player as John Henry, instead of Bill Henry. Given that John Henry is a timeless bluegrass standard, I was thinking about the song, while typing Bill‘s name. Sorry brother. Such is the result of having blue- grass hardwired into my brain… So folks, get out there and have a wonderful summer, and let blue- grass be the sound track that plays throughout. Out door festivals are still the best bargain around. Travel safe and keep smiling! Warm regards, Denis Chadbourn BMACC is Bluegrass Central! AND THE WINNER IS: Well, funny story here—the winner was Arla Blakney! Arla Blakney won the draw we held in Thonrnhill. Since she is in the concert committee in the Essex club, she had no use for the ticket, and graciously gave it up as a door prize during the Spinney Bros. concert in February. The ultimate recipient was Felicia Abela. Felicia and a friend will enjoy an evening of Blue- grass with Charlie Sizemore. Led by the International Bluegrass Music Association's (IBMA) 2-time "Male Vocal- ist Of The Year", Russell Moore, IIIrd Tyme Out, consisting of Moore (guitar), Steve Dilling (banjo), Justen Haynes (fiddle), Wayne Benson (mandolin), and Edgar Loudermilk (bass), has walked away with IBMA's "Vocal Group Of The Year" award 7 consecutive years. All in all, the band has garnered 50 industry awards since their inception in 1991. Their a cappella renditions of many songs, featuring one of the most respected lead vocalists of all time, can rarely be matched and their superb instrumen- tation, from some of the best musicians in the business, provides even more quality sound to their vocal blend. All this along with a heavy touring schedule, including many performances on the Grand Ole Opry as well as GAC and RFD channel programs, over 14 recordings to date, and a desire to pre- sent their fans with the best music possible, makes this "supergroup" one of bluegrass music's most recognized and in-demand bands in the genre's history. 'Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out' - Where did such a name have its origin? The name wittingly refer- ences that this was the third time out for founding member Moore, and consequently the third profes- sional bluegrass band association for him. No doubt, the third time has proven to be a charm. Respected writer and musician Chris Stuart, in his perceptive liner notes for Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out's Rounder records release 'Footprints: A IIIrd Tyme Out Collection' writes, "IIIrd Tyme Out has their own brand of bluegrass: unmatched quartets and trios, masterful lead singing, dead-on rhythm, tasteful fills, lyrical solos, and great songs. From stage left to right they are a complete band – perhaps the most complete band of the past two decades."
