There is not always an ideal resource to give us valuable feedback. However, the Directors of BMACC hope that the NOTES and the website will assist all our members in providing a forum for you to share your ideas and success stories. PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE President’s Message : Happy 2011 friends. Once again you have elected me, to be captain of the good ship BMACC for 2011, and I thank you. There is a movement afoot this term, to change our course, that would see us as a national organization. The change would make us the Bluegrass Music Association of Canada (not just central Canada). While there are sev- eral factors for this decision, the main is the limiting opportunity for growth, and funding as a regional organization. It would certainly be wonderful to have a bluegrass society network, from coast-to-coast,-to-coast, and not just the central provinces. If you have any information about bands, clubs, groups, concerts, shows, etc. across Canada, please send me their information to follow-up, or have them communicate with me. I’d like to send out a special thanks to Gary Hubbard, for conducting the Music Biz seminar, awards weekend at the Deerhurst. This informative session was geared towards making a living as a performing artists, and touched on many learned aspects of this music industry expert. Gary has agreed preliminarily, to contribute regular articles to this rag, and so we can all look forward to his expertise and insight. I would like to also pay tribute, to one of my favorite bluegrass bands, the Northern Sons, who, after a good long run, have decided to retire. Despite being sad to see them go, I smile, and look back fondly on their numerous perfor- mances, that I have had the good fortune to attend. Folks, this is really the only band, that has been able to make me weep openly, fall to my knees, and thank God for his grace. Thom’s God-given talents for songwriting, and his heartfelt vocal deliveries, never failed to stir the soul. The Son’s hallmark, being their sustained harmony push at the end of some songs, was always delivered inspiringly. Rory, thanks for introducing Marty to bluegrass! It just proves that introducing someone new to bluegrass, can result in years of fun, music, and in this case, countless awards. Chris’s version of Buck Fever Rag has always been my fave; I’m sure John Henry agrees that he could not have been enscripted into a better bluegrass band. Should The Sons ever wish to come out of retirement, we would gladly have you back. Lad’s, congrat’s. for all of the awards you have won over the years. Each and every one of them was well deserved! Many thanks to BMACC member, Rollande Pilon, for sending us many pictures for this issue. Rollande is a dear, sweet, lady who probably took some scandalous and incriminating-type photos of Ronnie & Ken (Winterline) doing their flash-mob dance moves at Deerhurst. But we’ll have to print that in the next issue…this one’s full-up. (And who said there’s no such thing as bad publicity.) Note to BMACC members : If you have any constructive comments or suggestions, that might benefit our blue- grass community, please feel free to send them along to us.
